Lincoln's legs are like tree trunks. And when he laughs the walls reverberate. He rides a 'harley' and has time for all and sundry. Joanne grew up on the golden plains west of Ballarat and has a love of all things country. Jo has green thumbs and if I was a chook I'd want Jo looking after me. Their kids are chalk and cheese. Jock's a gentle giant with his mother's countenance. George is a scallywag and half Jock's height. He’s a chip off the old block, if Lincoln's the old block.

Joanne wanted a colourful warm interior. Tick. We brought out the plumber in Lincoln by cladding the extension entirely in flat galvanised sheets. As Jock spends most of his day contemplating the ceiling we gave the ceiling texture and colour and scent. We used straw. And as George can be noisy the added acoustic values of the ceiling are agreeable. The other critical acoustic treatment is sliding screens between the kitchen and sitting room. We asked the family for photos that were important to them. The idea being that we would transfer the image onto acoustic panels. Lincoln offered us a picture of him on his harley, but we resisted the temptation. We chose a shot Jo had taken, looking under the wharf at Point Lonsdale. It's a scene that resonates with them. You would hope that all renovations could be this much fun.
